Bristol-based indie rockers Young Martyrs are back with their second single from their upcoming third studio album Might Just Be Enough, arriving this Summer. "Sugar On My Tongue" drops May 8th and comes with a music video that's as raw and honest as the track itself.
Recorded and produced at Real World Studios in Bath and Indefra Studios in Frome — with co-production from Sebastian Brice, engineering from Ben Koch, and mastering by Christian Wright (Ed Sheeran, Franz Ferdinand, Blur) at Abbey Road Studios — this is a band operating at a serious level.
Written by lead guitarist Rich Beeby, the song digs into the visceral feelings of unspoken attraction and physical longing. Beeby explains:
"The band rocks and rolls in this song so it needed a lyric that's raw and does most of its thinking from the neck down. It's about the visceral feelings of unspoken attraction and physical longing, and how those feelings might be suppressed, but can eventually develop into fantasy or obsession. It's really down to the listener to decide if surrendering to that intoxicating lustfulness should be avoided or celebrated."
The music video was shot by Rhys Davies of Furball Films in Bristol, filmed at Firebird Studios and local takeaway Lick'n Chick'n — a nod to the city where Young Martyrs first built their fanbase. The video follows two lead actors portraying the unrequited adoration between two young souls.
