International death-doom collective THŪN will release their fourth album, Changeling, on November 6 via Eat Lead and Die Music — and once again, Nile's Karl Sanders steps in on guest lead guitar across every track.
Formed during the pandemic as an outlet for guitarist/vocalist Jon Higgs's backlog of material, THŪN has always been a long-distance project: Higgs records from just north of London, drummer James Knoerl (Aviations, Gargoyl) tracks from Manhattan, and Sanders adds his leads whenever his touring schedule allows. On Changeling, the band leans further into its blend of epic death metal and discordant doom, built on a foundation of old-school Sabbath and Priest worship.
"This album has been a long time coming," Higgs says. "The drums were recorded at the same time as the third album, about four years ago, and it has been hiding in the shadows ever since... Luckily, Karl was also off tour and there was an open window for him to smash out the leads. It's great for this to finally see the light of day."
Dan Swanö handled mastering at Unisound, with an emphasis on preserving dynamics over loudness. Lead single "The Absurd Duty" is streaming now.
THŪN is Jon Higgs (guitars, vocals, production), James Knoerl (drums), and Karl Sanders (guest lead guitar).
