Belgian synthpoppunk duo Rich Kids On Steroids are back, and they've got opinions. Their new single "She's So Cynical" drops May 22nd on all streaming platforms and it sounds exactly like what you'd expect from a band that sounds like a disappointed handshake at a networking event.
Arlo Niks (vocals) and Barry von Bütenthal (synths) have written an ode to opportunism — specifically, that type of person who quotes Sun Tzu at parties, cites Machiavelli in conversation, and changes their principles the way others change coats. You know the type.
"She's So Cynical is an ode to opportunism. To the kind of person who never changes their mind but 'evolves'. Who doesn't jump ship but 'repositions'. And who doesn't dump old friends but 'decommissions' them. We all know the type. We might even be one ourselves."
Musically, the Ghent duo keeps it tight: cool monosynths, minimalist beats, and a vocalist struggling to keep pace with his own disbelief. Comparisons to Suicide and Soft Cell are warranted — but Rich Kids On Steroids add something harder to define. Cold electronics with warm cynicism, or the other way around.
Rumours of a connection with punk rockers The Sonic Redemption continue to circulate. Those involved are not responding. That probably says enough.
"She's So Cynical" — Out May 22, 2026. No AI. All real shit.
