Live Skull, the New York noise-rock band who came up in the 1980s alongside Sonic Youth and Swans, will release their new album What Could Go Wrong? on November 13, 2026 via Bronson Recordings. It is their fourth studio record since reforming in 2016.
The album was built from live jam sessions, then shaped into songs. Frontman and lyricist Mark C turns his focus to politics at large, particularly the rise of authoritarianism in the US, and the title is a running sarcastic refrain ("Elect a convicted felon... What Could Go Wrong?"). Mark C's lyrics were worked out through spoken word and collage-style poetry at the KGB bar in the East Village, with a nod to William Burroughs.
New bassist Colyn Hunt joins the lineup, bringing the band back toward the late-80s Snuffer/Positraction sound. The quartet recorded and mixed the album themselves at Deepsea, Mark C's studio in Hoboken, NJ.
"I hope listening to What Could Go Wrong? not only informs, but motivates people to stay creative, stay tuned in, stay dedicated to the creation of better art and a better future," says Mark C.
