New Single Release About the Tempi Train Crash

On March 22, 2024, the song “Fire and Steel (28/02/2023)” was released, referencing the tragic train crash that occurred in the Tempi Valley in central Greece on the date mentioned on the song title. Despite the fact that the track was released almost one year ago and the incident occurred almost two years ago, unfortunately the theme it covers is relevant as ever.

The song delivers a scathing critique of the criminal negligence that led to the incident, as well as the subsequent attempts to cover it up. It also addresses the repeated instances of police violence during the protests that followed. The lyrics contain multiple references to the biblical story of the sacrifice of Isaac by his father, Abraham, using it as an allegory: a father sending his child to death because a higher power demands it. However, unlike in the Book of Genesis, here, no angelic hand intervenes to stop the tragedy, ultimately making the sacrifice unavoidable. Thus, the song encourages listeners to reflect and take action against injustice, ensuring that this crime is not forgotten.

The track is primarily hip-hop in style but also incorporates distinct rock and soul influences, as well as a solo reminiscent of an electrified taxim (improvised instrumental passage). As a result, one could say that the song carries both sorrow for the lost souls of the victims and a sense of indignation. It was the product of a collaboration between Vic Moissis and papatanice, with both composing the music and handling production, while Moissis also wrote the lyrics. The melodic vocals in the chorus are performed by Yiota Papadopoulou, and the electric guitar solo-taximi is played by Kostas Papachatzis. The cover artwork was created by Panagiota Stergiopoulou.
