Brooklyn alt-rock trio Myra Lee have returned with "Dean," the second single from their debut LP Capture The Flag, out June 26th via all DSPs — premiered via SPILL Magazine.
Channeling the raw, expansive energy of '90s indie legends Yo La Tengo, Pavement, Electrelane, and Sonic Youth, "Dean" is one of Capture The Flag's most haunting moments — a piece of immersive storytelling built on crashing drums, distorted guitar, and the kind of vocals that drift through you.
The song carries deeply personal weight. Vocalist and guitarist Tahlia Amanson shares:
"My youngest sister, Ondine, had multiple near death experiences before she was 2 years old. I wrote Dean specifically highlighting the one summer when my mother brought us to the docks to go swimming. She handed Ondine to my other sister, who didn't catch her and Ondine fell into the water, sinking beneath the surface unable to swim. We thought we lost her, again."
Capture The Flag was recorded over two days in a Lower East Side basement studio with engineer Jeremy Harris (Devendra Banhart, Hand Habits) and mixed/mastered by Calvin Lauber (Boygenius, Julien Baker). The result is an intimate, multi-instrumental debut grappling with alcoholism, sexuality, and grief.
