Italian masked rapper-guitarist Red Sky has released a video for "Shoganai," the opening track of his album Nostalgia del Futuro (out now via Epictronic). The clip is a playback performance shot at night among the neon of Kabukicho, Tokyo.
"Shoganai" is Japanese for "it can't be helped," and the song uses it as a defiant answer to critics: they can keep talking, but they cannot decide where he goes next. The album was inspired by Maxwell Maltz's Psycho-Cybernetics and written shortly before Red Sky moved to Japan. It mixes metal, rap, electronic, reggae and traditional Japanese and Middle Eastern influences, with lyrics in Italian and Japanese about identity, ageing and self-worth.
Red Sky has worked since 2011 under what he calls "Kintsugi Music" and has 14 albums to his name. The press note compares his audience to fans of Caparezza and Rancore, and of Linkin Park, Rammstein and Falling in Reverse.
