Joan As Police Woman is marking 20 years since her 2006 debut, Real Life, with a new album of reinterpretations, Real Life Evolution, out via Reveal Records. The latest single from it, "Save Me," features none other than Iggy Pop.
The two have history: they first crossed paths through a recording project dedicated to Edgar Allan Poe, and Joan now plays Wurlitzer organ and sings in Iggy's band. Iggy's vocals on "Save Me" were captured on a portable rig in a hotel room, next to the pool, while the pair were on tour in New Zealand.
"To me, Iggy is one of the great romantics," Joan says. "His voice is simply one of the greatest of all time... This song carries that same quality I've always heard in him: a raw, aching desperation that few singers can touch."
A stripped-back "Real Life Anniversary Sessions" performance video was released alongside it, with Joan joined by guitarist/vocalist Will Graefe and drummer Jeremy Gustin, filmed at The Owl Music Parlor in Brooklyn. Real Life Evolution is ten new interpretations of songs from the original record.
