Interview with Thousand Frames

What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today? For me personally, it was seeing a friend play guitar and wanting to look cool. I honestly can’t see myself doing anything else.

What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity? I am a person who loves to hang with my family and friends. It’s easy to find things to write about when you are just out there living life.

How long has your band been around? We have been blessed to be around for 11 years!

Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music? We are based out of Denver, Colorado. As one of the few hard rock/metalcore bands out here, our music has changed. Arguably our early stuff sounded lighter but as we started getting more comfortable with our sound, we changed it to a sound that would best suit us.

How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you? Funny enough, it was a random band name generator that gave us our name. Over the years, we have attached the meaning to “a picture is worth a thousand words” and changed out words part to frames.

Tell me about your most memorable shows. The last show that we played at the Bluebird was definitely memorable. Our name was on the marquee which was really special. Another one was when we opened for the band RED in 2017. We were definitely starstruck!

What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already? Hands down, Marquis Theater is our go-to spot to rock out. The crowd vibes are always awesome, and let's not forget about the mind-blowing pizza! Dream venues? We'd love to play Fillmore, Ogden, and, of course, the legendary Red Rocks.

If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket? We would love to play with Starset, Bad Omens, and Sleep Token.

What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self? Make sure you're hanging out with folks who vibe with your wavelength. Being in a band is kinda like being in a relationship. Figure out how you want things to roll and get on the same page about how serious you want the band to be. Chat it up with your bandmates, and don't forget to start building connections in the scene!

If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be? Be patient!

Of your songs which one means the most to you and why? Among our current songs, I'd say "Regret You" holds a special place. It's the first track where we saw folks really connecting with the music on a deeper level.

Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most? I would say that our current favorite is “Masquerade” as it’s a total banger and most requested is “Regret You.”

What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music? Our usual routine involves Kyle and me tossing 30-second demos back and forth until we hit on something that clicks and makes us want to dig deeper. That's how we've been rolling in this new phase of our music. It's been a super collaborative and fun process, kinda like playing around in the lab and mixing and matching ideas.

What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music? Our messages vary in our catalog, covering topics like inner struggles, breakups, unity, and the craziness happening around us in the world.

Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them? Kyle and I hardly ever disagree! It's awesome because we're usually on the same page, having known each other for so long. And when we do hit a bump, we just chat it out and find some middle ground.

What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up? We're dropping a brand-new single this Friday, and we're super pumped about it! And just so you know, there's more music coming your way in the next year. Stay tuned!
