Interview with PRIMAL ROOTS

Interview answered by Amira Debaieb: Bass player.

What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?

I met music through radio and early music TV channels like VIVA and since then I got into it, but I only started to understand the music language when I was 15. I already have my daily job which I also admire.

What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?

If i am not playing music, i would probably be meeting some friends, going to cinema and concerts, or just learning a new skill. I believe that everything can play a role in creativity. I love seeing people enjoying their time in performance and it makes me want to work harder.

How long has your band been around? Also, please tell me about the dynamic of the band and what brought you all together.

Three of us are from a different country but somehow moved in to Greece-Athens. We met through the love of music and composing our own songs so we decided to just go for it and build goals on the way. Our singer Rachel is from the UK, our guitarist Alejandro is from Spain, our Bassist Amira is from Tunisia and our new drummer Alex is from Greece.

The band was formed in 2019, we had small changes in the lineup but this did not stop us from improving and creating our music.

Where are you based and how did that influence your music?

We are based in Greece. I am not sure if that has an influence on our music but we are enjoying being here. The metal scene has its own place.

How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?

Since we all come from different countries and traditions, we wanted to have a name that represent all of us which is the primal root of each member.

Tell me about your most memorable shows.

Our album presentation as well as a live show in Kyttaro 2023.

What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?

So far it is Kyttaro but we are usually open to play in different venues, we do not have any specific.

If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?

If it is in greece we would like to be along with Countdown.

What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?

For someone just starting, I would say, try to play music that you would enjoy, do individual practice and not only during rehearsal with your band mates, listen to everyone playing and always look for improvement. My advice to myself is to “be less of an introvert” maybe haha.

Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?

They all mean alot to me but I would say Race to the red light because the chorus always gets me emotional.

Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?

Our favorite to play and most requested is Black.

What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?

Usually someone will start an idea like a riff or a melody then we build the rest together. Some can be about depression, strength, feeling and even love.

What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?

Be yourself and enjoy your time.

Do you have any new singles, videos, or albums out that you would like to tell me and your fans about?

Our new music is still not yet recorder, but you can definitely check out our full album online and check our latest Metal cover of the song Gangsta’s Paradise.

What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?

Our goal is to keep working, improving and creating more songs as well doing live shows within and outside of greece.

How can your fans best keep up to date with you, any socials you want people to check out?

We try to use social media as much as we can so people can share and enjoy the band easily. We also appreciate magazine interviews as they always try to support the bands. You can find all necessary places via the linktree https://linktr.ee/primalrootsmetal
