Interview with NIGHTWRAITH
Questions answered by Benjamin Pitts of NightWraith
Hey, thank you for coming back for another interview! What is new since the last interview?
- Hey thanks so much for talking with me about NightWraith! We've been busy writing and recording our 3rd full-length album, which is called "Divergence". It was a pretty big endeavour too, but I guess producing any record is. Our previous bass player left in 2023 so the producer from our 2nd album "Offering" took over on bass duties. He actually engineered Divergence as well, then we had it mixed/mastered by Zack Ohren (Machine Head) and it's the best production we have to date. We are super stoked for people to hear it because the songs are great and it seriously sounds amazing!
What has been inspiring you lately?
- I love this question! I've been listening to a lot more psych-rock bands lately, like Elder, Smokey Mirror, and Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats. I've been really into the new Harvestman record too, mainly just because I love everything that Steve von Till does. I've also been going through the Leonard Cohen catalogue, his albums are so good and it's cool learning more about him because he's had a super interesting life. Honestly though, I really like listening to the music my friends make, I think having a personal relationship with the artist enhances the listening experience. The new Wayfarer album is fantastic, and Glacial Tomb has a new single out which is badass too!
Do you have any new singles, videos, or albums out that you would like to tell me and your fans about?
- So our first single/video for the new album "Divergence" came out at the end of July and its called "Whispers of Dragonflies". The song really showcases our musical range, and has a cool ‘circular’ song structure which makes it stand out on the album. The main riff for the beginning/end of the song is very intense, and then the song has a dynamic shift to clean guitars that help the synth chords shine through. The vocals also go clean for this middle section too, but have enough grit on them to sound haunting. Then there is a clean guitar solo, a rock fusion section with a synth interlude that sends you to outer space, and a lovely flute solo performed by our friend Kelly Schilling from the band Dreadnought. Our second single/video just dropped at the end of August and is called "Perpetual Night". This song could be the most ‘classic NightWraith’ song on the album, it's got it all! It has a catchy black metal sound to it, a dynamic bridge section that brings the energy down, and picks back up with back-to-back guitar/keyboard solos, plus the chorus is fun to sing along with. Lyrically, this song is about how our global society is kind of blindly going all-in on technology, and how we should maybe take a step back and re-establish a connection to nature. In my experience, I get much more meaning from life through the physical world around us, and not through the dopamine-driven logic of tech. We also got our friend Jake Mulhern to produce the video for us. He cut together a bunch of scenes from the movie Metroplois, we could use this footage because the movie's old and is public domain now. It ties into the theme of the song perfectly and looks really awesome!
Do you have anything else that you would like to talk about or promote?
- We're doing a bunch of shows in September for the release, playing with Venom Inc. in January of next year, and booking a west coast tour for spring of 2025. Definitely give us a follow on Instagram or Facebook to get all the latest show dates and news. It's hard to think about new material at this point, but we really want to release a single and possibly another cover song next year.
How can your fans best keep up to date with you, any socials you want people to check out?
- I always keep our Instagram and Facebook up to date. I also built a website for us that keeps everything in one place - like bio, videos, press, photos, contact, etc. We also sell vinyl, CDs, cassettes, and shirts on our Bandcamp page so you should check that out too. I'll be adding some new shirt designs at the end of September.
