Interview with LUKE TANGERINE

What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?

My journey into music was largely inspired by my father, who is an avid music enthusiast. Growing up surrounded by his extensive vinyl collection, I developed a deep love and appreciation for music, thanks to him.

If I hadn't pursued music, I believe I'd still be on a similar path. I'm not a full-time musician; I also work as a media developer. However, my passion for music has always steered me towards creative fields. It's the underlying reason I'm drawn to work that allows for artistic expression and innovation.

-----------------------

What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?

When I'm not composing music, I'm often immersed in creating 360° photos or working on my personal virtual reality projects. I'm a passionate VR enthusiast and have a keen interest in exploring and experimenting with new media formats.

------------------------

How long have you been making music?

I've been involved in the music industry for about 20 years now. After graduating from university, I started my career as a music teacher and was also actively involved in performing as a musician. Additionally, I've had the opportunity to play guitar with professional bands. That period of my life was truly remarkable and enriching.

------------------------

Where are you based and how did that influence your music?

I'm based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and my music is deeply inspired by the vibrant energy and dynamic atmosphere of this big city

-------------------------

Tell me about your most memorable shows, if you haven’t played live what is your vision for a live show?

In the past ten years, I've stepped away from playing live, but I fondly remember performing at a jazz festival in Europe in September 2012. That show was an amazing experience and remains a highlight of my musical journey.

--------------------------

What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?

I have a particular fondness for small jazz clubs because of the intimacy they offer. Being close to the audience allows for a more engaging and personal concert experience. On the other hand, I also adore performing at big festivals near the sea or ocean. There's a sense of freedom and expansiveness in these settings that I find incredibly inspiring.

--------------------------

What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into making music and some advice that you would give to your younger self?

My advice to anyone interested in music is to listen to a diverse array of genres, from the classic rock and jazz to the hits of the 80s and 90s. It's important to analyze and understand these different styles, and to learn to appreciate them even if they fall outside of your usual preferences

--------------------------

What is your creative process, and what inspires you to write your music?

My creative process in music writing is deeply personal and varies with each piece. Inspiration often strikes from everyday experiences and emotions. I might be inspired by a conversation, a moment in nature, a feeling, or even other art forms like literature or cinema. This initial spark leads to a period of introspection where I explore these feelings or ideas through my music.

Technically, I usually start with a melody or a chord progression. I'll play around on my instrument, letting the music flow naturally. Once I have a basic tune, I build upon it, experimenting with different sounds and structures until it feels right. Lyrics, if they are part of the piece, typically come next, often written in tandem with the developing melody to ensure they complement each other.

Collaboration can also play a key role in my process. Working with other musicians can bring new perspectives and ideas that enhance the final piece.

--------------------------------

Do you have any new singles, videos, or albums out that you would like to tell me and your fans about?

In August 2023, I released my full album titled 'Interstellar Radio.' This album is primarily an instrumental work, centered around synthesizer-based music. It's heavily inspired by the early electronic music of the late 70s, imbued with a sense of nostalgia. Alongside this, I've had the opportunity to collaborate with various artists on several songs, each bringing a unique flavor to the projects.

I'd like to extend a warm invitation for you to listen to my latest song, 'Safe,' a collaboration with singer Matthew Mirliani. It's a track we're both proud of and we hope you'll enjoy it. You can find 'Safe' on all major streaming platforms. We're excited to share it with you and look forward to hearing your thoughts!

------------------------------------------

What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?

Looking ahead, I'm excited about my upcoming album in 2024, 'Abandoned CyberWorld,' which I'm currently working on. Some tracks from this album is already available to listen to. Also I have an upcoming collaboration with Carlos Ucedda, we will publish new single at the end of February.
