Interview with Kyle Haze

What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?

I was lucky to spend my childhood in a house that always had music. My dad and my elder brothers had a huge collection of cassettes, a much bigger number than the books in my house. It took me a while but all the inspiration from my childhood led me to pursue music as an adult. I always had a backup option, to become a power ranger; so, if not music, I would be saving planet earth from cosmic supervillains.

What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?

I am a big fan of music video and working with creative people to make videos for my songs is what do these days. I am also learning rollerblading and I like to travel and visit my friends (who have not got sick of seeing me yet).

How long have you been making music?

Quite some time.

Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?

Toronto. Let’s talk about influence. I have a song called Canadian Summer set to release next year around May. Besides, I am still discovering the city. I recently went to this place called scooters in Etobicoke where they had dance music and skating. I am working on some music coming in from that vibe.

What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into making music and some advice that you would give to your younger self?

No unwanted advice to anybody else. For my younger self, you can do or experience everything so let go of a few things.

Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?

At the end of the day, I am a progressive rock fan and my next song, Kayfabe, is a prog-rock ballad that has come out really well. It features Tammy Whetham on the vocals and is mixed and mastered by Tom Maclean from twelve tone studios in England, UK. I think I have done a fair job at mixing politics and poetry together in that song.

What is your creative process, and what inspires you to write your music?

aarggh! Complicated. I try to record my ideas when I get them. The ideas can come while I am doodling on the guitar or just listening to somebody say something unexpected or poetic. The chorus for one of my songs just presented itself to me in a dream.

Do you have messages that you like to get across in your music, if so please tell me about them?

Meh!

What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?

I will tell you everything for the next 90 days.I have a song called Kayfabe releasing on 13th Dec. Then there is a called Artificial Intelligence releasing in January, along with a Music Video. These songs are sung by Tammy Whetham. For the music video, I worked with this very passionate German Cinematographer Moritz Peter Forster. After that there is another song called Alternate Reality that I releasing in February, also with a Music Video. :DFor the immediate, I plan to record some performance videos with some talented musicians that I am scouting at the moment and then of course hit the live world.
