Interview with FANGS, Bassist of Lÿnx
1.What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
Fangs: I've always loved music, the skateboarding scene had lots of great music either in skate videos and of course Tony Hawks Pro Skater!!! In all honesty, my buddy introduced me to the bass and after then my musical journey really began. If I hadn't started playing music I'd still be swinging hammers and cursing my boring life!
2.What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
Fangs: I'm always playing music! Being the only dad in the band I have the joy of playing for my kids and they love it! I'm raising some true Rockers! I've skateboarded for 20+ years and it's given me a lot of creative juices to work with and the ability to do something over and over again!
3.How long has your band been around?
Fangs: Lÿnx has been around for three years now, we announced ourselves to the world in September 2021 and it's been a hell of a ride ever since.
4.Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
Fangs: We're based out of Calgary but none of the members are actually from Alberta! I tend to find it's hilarious, and it's kind of awesome that we all came together from all over the world (Blade grew up in India) and yet we all love Rock-'n'-roll! Music is truly a language that breaks all barriers.
5.How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
Fangs: Blade came up with the name, but it's become exactly who we all are, there's an animal in all of us and we're lucky enough to let ours out on and off the stage.
6.Tell me about your most memorable shows.
Fangs: We've had lots of great shows together some not so great but that's the nature of live music. I think one of our greatest gigs was our first one, at the end of the set we had like fifteen people or something like that up on stage singing our song with us!
7.What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
Fangs: Dickens, definitely it's a great bar awesome stage and the staff there is really accommodating. Where would I like to play, everywhere! Haha! I guess if I had to pick one location it'd have to be Red Rocks amphitheater.
8.If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Fangs: This is such a tough question because there are so many great lineups to make, but I'd love to play a show with Skid Row and White Snake.
9.What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Fangs: Find guys that have the same dream. Wanna cover tunes then find people that wanna do that too, wanna become a rockstar find a couple more rockstars. To my younger self find Blade, Flash and baby Jagur and get started haha!
10.If you could go back in time and give yourselves advice, what would it be?
Fangs: Focus. Focus on music and life cause you never know what's coming your way.
11.Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
Fangs: Nothing but Love. It's the ballad on our upcoming album. I wrote it for my wife originally and Blade and Jagur made it into a rock ballad, it means the world to me that it made it onto the album.
12.Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
Fangs: Long live Rock-'n'-roll. It's super fun to play and a great tune that gets people up, dancing and singing! Shake it up is also a great song and everyone loves it when we start to play! Don't think we've had anyone request a song yet, but I can't wait till they do!
13.What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
Fangs: We all enjoy the fast pace 80's party songs and that's what most of our songs end up being! We usually come up with the music and fit the lyrics to the music which at times can pretty stressful but worth it in the long run. To the second point we've been inspired and want to inspire other people with our music! We have something to say and we're gonna say it loud!
14.What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
Fangs: That as long as we are alive and kicking Rock-'n'-roll will never die!
15.Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
Fangs: Yeah, and it's good. We can't always agree, brothers fight, but we love playing music together and tend to agree with each other most of the time anyways.
16.What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
Fangs: Play, Play, Play. We have our new album coming out titled ‘Claws Out’ releasing May 9th 2024, we also have our second music video for the album "Hell in High Heels" coming out next week on April 12th. Beyond that sky is the limit, but you can always keep up to date on our coming and goings at our website www.lynxrocks.com
