Interview with Emergency Break
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
Acting ! we would all hopefully be treading boards at the National Theatre
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
Movies , Reading , Listening to Music - a lot of what we make is influenced by past inspirations and then we mix them in with our creativity that has been gifted by us through these mediums, a think a lot of bands should subject themselves to a range of books and movies about all sorts before putting pen to paper as it really helps with another lens
How long has your band been around? Also, please tell me about the dynamic of the band of what brought you all together.
Yes! So we formed in 2021 when me (Leo) , Joe (Guitarist) & Ewan (Bass) met at theatre school together. We originally used ‘Emergency Break’ as sort of a production company making short films, fan made music videos, plays until we landed on the music. We loved live music and it was one of the first things that drew us all in to become inseparable we used to get proper sweaty watching bands like ‘Sports Team’ , Fat Dog’ , ‘SHAME’ & ‘The Murder Capital’ all in there early days some of the folks we used to run into at them shows now shoot our gigs our mosh in our pits which we think is hilarious and so full circle. After some time we started laying demos and some early tracks like “ITS OVER” with the key additions of James (Drums) Oran (Guitar) and together we became Emergency Break.
Where are you based and how did that influence your music?
London - we really take a heavy nod from the London scene with bands like Sports Team & SHAME etc and their early gigs really gave us the foot up into believing we can do it
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
It really came from thinking the world needs an Emergency Break, there is so much tension and chaos happening today and we hop to provide a live show thats a ‘Break’ from that
Tell me about your most memorable shows.
Currently for us its our recent sellout London adventure at the Grace. A EB London headline really feels like all the dots coming together
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
Our favorite venue we have ever played is Club 85 in Hitchin we love that place a dream for us is either to tread the boards at Brixton Academy or The Electric ballroom
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Rolling Stones Headline
Supported by IDLES , Emergency Break and Wunderhorse
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Play PLAY PLAY!! REHEARSE Rehearse!! And graft it spend every hour chasing promoters and venues and getting shows!!
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
Currently this track HOMETOWN - HOMETOWN is about nostalgia and how it always creeps up on you weather you like it or not, when i wrote the lyrics to HOMETOWN i didn't think it would ever become a song it was more a word dump of all my feelings at the time and the stories i heard about the people i left behind. And even if you didnt move halfway across the world and just up north or down south for university there is still a relatability to picking all your favorite clothes and jewelry and personal belongings and cramming them into one suitcase and moving away leaving what is in theory your childhood behind
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
The bands favourite at the moment is our next single DOLLFACE but PYRO is the sign everyone always asks for and IRISH ECSTASY
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
Our songs come from all different avenues of creation and inspiration, when we went to record this song we had already been playing it live for just under a year and we all had one collective goal and it was to create a song that hit close to home for all of us
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
We like to address unspoken topics or the elephant in the room in our songs but not in a conventional way
Do you have any new singles, videos, or albums out that you would like to tell me and your fans about?
We will be putting out our new single DOLLFACE very soon
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
We are supporting the View In london !! Joining the Lilacs in southampton and planning our big summer show…
How can your fans best keep up to date with you, any socials you want people to check out?
