Interview with DPB

What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?

I was brought up in a gospel music family and since I have been in music all my life, I don’t know anything else or could see myself doing anything but music.

What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?

I become a life coach, minister, and someone who cares and loves people. These experiences all help me in writing my music and lyrics to help people with todays social issues and troubles.

How long have you been making music?

I have been singing music since I was 5 years old but started writing music when I turned 16 and have been ever since.

Where are you based and how did that influence your music?

I currently moved from Alabama to Ohio and where I live does not really have an effect on how I write my music, my influences come from life’s tests and trials.

Tell me about your most memorable shows, if you haven’t played live what is your vision for a live show?

My memorable show has to be in the Southside of Chicago when I was doing outreach for a church and we setup a concert on a street and was quickly inhabited by over 5,000 gang members who were mourning the death of one of their members, we were told we could perform our concert which out interference but just as we were to start, some of the gang members said if we talked on stage we would he shot and killed, the pastor I was there with doing the outreach told those gang members you can kill someone who is already dead, we went on stage with no shots fired, scared, but amazingly God showed up and we saved all 5000 souls unto the Lord, it was a true miracle of God.

What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?

My favorite places are Minneapolis MN and the Rain Teen Center in Winchester TN.  I would love to perform at the Sphere in Las Vegas someday.

If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?

Fred Hammond, Toby Mac, Kirk Franklin, Justin Beeber and would love to have had Michael Jackson.

What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into making music and some advice that you would give to your younger self?

Practicing daily, sharpening your musical tool, and take advantage of the opportunities you are presented with and don’t overlook them.

Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?

“Undefeated 3.0 RE”, it is the story of my life’s challenges and how I made it through and am living a life Undefeated.

Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?

“Undefeated 3.0 RE” is the most requested and my favorite to play is “I feel so good today”

What is your creative process, and what inspires you to write your music?

I listen to and develop instrumental music and wait for God to give me inspiration to write lyrics to the music I developed.

Do you have messages that you like to get across in your music? if so please tell me about them.

My music delivers my message to help people become confident and empowered in their life to make the changes required to be happy and successful.
