Interview with DONEFOR
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
Music has always been a center of our lives. We love variety and really just enjoy being able to experience the power of what music can do firsthand.
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
A lot of the members like to work out or work on cars. Traveling is also a big thing that we enjoy doing.
How long has your band been around? Also, please tell me about the dynamic of the band of what brought you all together.
We have been around since 2022. It started out as a solo project for our singer and then evolved into a band shortly after. It started as piecing together those songs from the solo work into full band arrangements. After setting up a few shows we realized, hey we have something here and continued to grow and grow over this shared “let’s see how far we can take this” mentality.
Where are you based and how did that influence your music?
All five members have different music tastes 2wand it heavily effects our music. It is very easy to hear that our songs vary in genre from pop-punk, metal, reggae, acoustic, and more because of having five members that listen to completely different music than they make. Two members love metal, two like reggae and our drummer is a jazz drummer even.
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
Riley, one of our lead singers and guitarists just threw down a ton of names on paper and the all capital, bold font name “DONEFOR” just stuck. We really have no meaning behind it and let the songs define what we are.
Tell me about your most memorable shows.
In the dozens of shows we have played, two really stand out, Playing 2024 Brightside Festival with Sublime and 311, and our sold out album release show. With the festival, thousands of fans voted us on to play and it really showed us the support we have. The bands were awesome to meet and play with and left us with many stories to tell. Our album release show was also so memorable because not only did it sell out, we had to turn away hundreds of people because that many came to support DONEFOR’s release of the new album.
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
We love the Ranch Concert Hall in Fort Myers, it is a large venue, amazing staff and just our home stage. We would love to play at Jannus Live in St. Pete, FL with it being outside and just so unique
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Bring me the horizon, Papa Roach, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
Do not give up when something is difficult and does not go your way. You will get a million rejections, even if you deserve a yes, most cases you will get a no. All it takes is one moment and a band will never find it if they do not try.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
“You’re Welcome” really put us on the map so I would have to say that. This track is our most streamed, most known and overall, the best live song we perform. This is the song everybody knows at every DONEFOR show.
Which songs are your favorite to play, and which get requested the most?
We do a sick cover of “Since U Been Gone” by A Day To Remember but of ours, we would have to say people really enjoy “Soaring”.
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
We write a track and then work with those instrumentals with our producer to find vocal lines and melodies that work with it.
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
It ranges from being yourself to getting through heartbreak. We try to really capture the human scope in our music.
Do you have any new singles, videos, or albums out that you would like to tell me and your fans about?
Our track “REALIGNED” is something that we are really stoked about. It is a reggae metalcore track that combines the groove and up stroked guitars found in reggae to the choruses and breakdowns found in most sub-genres of metal. The music video was a blast to record, and we hope it connects fans of so many genres.
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
We have a tour with aurorawave in March. These guys are a band we really look up to and will be our first tour with a major band!
