Interview with Amyjo Doh & The Spangles
What got you into music, and if you had not gotten into music what would you be doing today?
I think it’s easier to say to that music got into me! I never imagined I would be a musician… it was dream come true but I dream that I hadn’t even dared to dream!
What do you like to do when you are not playing music and how does that influence your creativity?
So many different things! Living life! And THAT is what influences me.
Where are you based out of and how did that influence your music?
Madrid… again… I think you could take the time to look this up
How did you come up with the name of your band and what does it mean to you?
It was written on the back of an egg box
Tell me about your most memorable shows.
I have a terrible memory
What is your favorite venue to play at, and do you have any places you want to play that you have not already?
There are some great places in madrid… I love playing accoustic shows too in a tiny little tavern called ‘The bodega de Aguila’… my dream is to play in Mexico
If you could play any show with any lineup, who would be on the ticket?
Bffffff…… so many!
David Bowie, The kinks, Stevie Wonder, The Clash, Chas & Dave, Lou Reed, Ella Fitzgerald
What is some advice that you would give to someone who is just getting into playing in a band and some advice that you would give to your younger self?
GO FOR IT! Do what ya gotta do and don’t be scared of being yourself.
Of your songs which one means the most to you and why?
They are all my babies, and I don’t really have favourites… it depends on the moment, the vibe and the crowd
Which songs are your favorite to play and which get requested the most?
Again, this depends. Museo de Jamon gets requested alot
What is the creative process for the band, and what inspires you to write your music?
Life
What kinds of messages do you like to get across in your music?
It depends on the song… but our general master plan is to spread love and joy through our songs and our shows… we do also have some songs that invite people to WAKE UP and not be fooled by the conditions and entrapments of social tools… such as time, money etc
Do you ever have disagreements in your band, and how do you get past them?
They all know better than to argue with the Boss! He he he
What are your plans for the future, and do you have anything that you want to spotlight that is coming up?
