Illinois punk outfit Harrison Gordon just signed to Hopeless Records, and they wasted zero time letting you know exactly who they are. The band has announced their forthcoming record BLISS, dropping September 4th, and they're launching it with a second single and music video for "Not Working! Not Working!"—and this one hits.
The track started as a tongue-in-cheek rant about grinding away in food service, but it's grown into something much bigger. The band breaks it down: "Being alive is like 500 times more expensive than it was for our parents, and most of the people my age I know couldn't even fathom buying a home. Grindset and side hustle culture has polluted us into thinking we should all be content creators and entrepreneurs. I don't want that! I don't want to be a fucking small business owner! I want to put a 6-pack down and rewatch movies I know I don't like, not "hop on a quick call."
If that doesn't make you want to mosh in your living room, nothing will.
Harrison Gordon builds their anthems for catharsis and connection—big hooks, shout-along choruses, and enough energy to level a room. Even as they've graduated to larger stages alongside State Champs, Hot Mulligan, and Arm's Length, their DIY soul is fully intact. BLISS is shaping up to be the record that breaks them wide open.
