TRELLDOM — ...by the word... (May 29)
Gaahl's avant-garde Norwegian outfit returns, and yes, it sounds exactly like what you'd expect from a band that's never once cared what you expect. Norwegian avant-garde metal at its most uncompromising. May 29 can't come soon enough.

ANOTHER DEMON — "As Above So Below" EP ft. James Murphy
NYC thrashers Another Demon have a new EP out, and the guest appearance from James Murphy of Testament, Death, and Obituary fame is reason enough to pay attention. They're also hitting the road in September, supporting Vicious Rumors in Hamden, CT on Sept 11.

NEO DIMES — Alone (May 19)
Denver's Neo Dimes make industrial/synth/darkwave music about "confronting digital dystopia," and their debut full-length drops May 19 on vinyl and cassette. The tagline sounds like a pitch deck, but the music sounds like a panic attack in a good way. Keep an eye on this one.

REDSHIFT — Down The Wire (May 29, Pale)
A progressive-metal trio with an A.I.-inspired concept album that they describe as "scathing" — which, given the timing, feels earned rather than on-trend. This is their third concept album, which means they're either very good at this or incapable of doing anything else. Either way, the record is out May 29.

📋 THE REST OF THE WEEK

BLINDEAD 23 — "IMMERSION I" (from DEUTERIUM, May 22, Peaceville)
Poland's most anticipated extreme metal act is debuting on Peaceville Records, and the second single "IMMERSION I" is out now. DEUTERIUM lands May 22. Peaceville doesn't sign bands they don't believe in — take note.

CAELESTIA — Signs to Eclipse Records
Athens-based CAELESTIA blend melodic black metal and modern death metal, and they've just signed a worldwide deal with Eclipse Records. The kicker: Marc Reign (Destruction, Morgoth) is behind the kit. That's not a name you attach to a band without good reason. Watch for what comes next.

EXTREMA — Thrashing 'Till The End – Live at Slaughter Club
Thirty years deep, Italian thrash metal pioneers EXTREMA have captured a full live document from their hometown, and it hits exactly like a 30-year-old thrash band should. If you've never heard EXTREMA, this is a fine place to start. If you have, you already know.

RISING INSANE — DEATHRACE
German metallers Rising Insane announced their new album DEATHRACE today alongside the title track video. It's heavy, it's kinetic, and if the single is any indication, the record is going to land hard.

ARROGANZ — "Death Doom Punks" (lyric video)
German crushers ARROGANZ have released a lyric video for the title track of their upcoming album Death Doom Punks. The name is also the genre description. Exactly what it says on the tin, delivered with maximum intent.

NOVAREIGN — "Sun & Moon"
Los Angeles progressive power metal band NOVAREIGN are back with their first new music in two years. "Sun & Moon" is online now and the album is available for pre-order. Prog power fans: this one's for you.

FORGOTTEN SHRINE — "Halo"
Folk metal duo FORGOTTEN SHRINE present "Halo," a song that embraces country and pop elements while sitting inside a metal framework. The narrative wrestles with wanting to see the best in someone even when the evidence points the other way. Quiet and kind of devastating.

RAT BOY — "BROKEN" (from CRASH!, June 26, Epitaph)
RAT BOY is reviving the '90s with a new music video for "BROKEN," the lead single from CRASH!, out June 26 on Epitaph. There's an energy here that feels genuinely alive — not nostalgia mining, but something that sounds like that era made sense of now.

MATHILDE WIDDING — "Burning Pockets of Love"
Tromsø-based soul singer-songwriter Mathilde Widding is one of those artists you come across and immediately wonder how you hadn't heard of her sooner. "Burning Pockets of Love" is her latest single — stunning, unhurried, and genuinely moving.

FROM LAST WEEK (THAT YOU STILL NEED TO HEAR)

SARCOMA — "Reinos Fallidos"
Ecuador's deathcore scene is real, and SARCOMA are leading it. "Reinos Fallidos" is their latest single — brutal, technically sharp, and building toward a new album expected in August.

NIGHTS OF MALICE — "Gore Nest"
New Jersey deathcore outfit NIGHTS OF MALICE dropped a video single for "Gore Nest" ahead of their debut full-length Chaos Exordium, out June 4. Dark and unrelenting.

THE VEILS — "Aurora"
New Zealand indie outfit The Veils return with "Aurora" — single and video out now. Finn Andrews and company make music that's been called "refreshingly passionate," and that description earns its keep here.

EMBRACE OF SOULS — "The Battle of The Dead"
The title track from EMBRACE OF SOULS' new concept album lands ahead of its May 2026 release. This is epic heavy metal with ambition — the concept album format is treated seriously, not as decoration.

GODSIZE ERROR — new single
Finnish modern groove metal powerhouse Godsize Error keep delivering. Their latest single is heavy and atmospheric — exactly what their reputation promises. Out now.

blacktoothed — "Monsters"
blacktoothed returned with "Monsters," a new single with a visualizer that leans into everything they do well: melodic urgency, emotional weight, and a hook that stays with you.

CINEMA STARE — "Few Things"
Pop punk/emo band Cinema Stare released "Few Things" and announced a tour alongside Adjust The Sails and Worlds Greatest Dad. If you're into Motion City Soundtrack, Sincere Engineer, or Origami Angel — yes, this band.
