Two of Chicago punk's longest-running exports just gave each other a gift. Alkaline Trio and Rise Against released a split single today, each covering a song from the other's catalog: Rise Against tackles Alkaline Trio's "Private Eye," while Alkaline Trio takes on Rise Against's "Re-Education (Through Labor)." Both tracks are available digitally now, with a limited-edition 7" vinyl up for pre-order.
The release lands right before the two bands kick off an extensive co-headlining US tour, starting September 22 in Dallas and hitting cities including New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Milwaukee, and San Francisco through late October.
"It's so much fun and such an honor to be swapping cover tunes with a band we've known personally and loved since we both formed and came up from our shows at the Fireside Bowl in Chicago," said Alkaline Trio's Matt Skiba. "It feels like a tradition we started decades ago that naturally comes back to us."
Rise Against's Tim McIlrath traced the bond even further back: "The connection between Alkaline Trio and Rise Against actually pre-dates both bands' inceptions... We have an understanding and appreciation of each other's bands that could only come from being from the same scene."
